How can we, in times of climate change and species extinction, broaden our view of plants and include them as co-creative actors in artistic processes?
Guided by composer, sound artist and plant ambassador Cassis B Staudt, students from the Department of Design at Hochschule Mainz explored these and other questions in a three-day workshop at the LUX Pavilion and in the forest.
Alongside her work as a film composer, Cassis works intensively with the biodata sonification of plants and is one of the German pioneers of this artistic practice. The workshop became a joint interdisciplinary lab of biodata sonification, visual media, field recordings, mindfulness and improvisation — always centred on plants and our own perception of non-human actors in the artistic process.
In autumn 2026, five video works created during the workshop will be published here.
